We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Itu Ninu has secured its place in the Official Competition of Mexican Feature Dramas at the renowned Morelia International Film Festival.

The Morelia International Film Festival
The Morelia International Film Festival, an annual cinematic extravaganza set against the backdrop of the enchanting city of Morelia, Mexico, stands as a beacon for filmmakers across the globe. Edinburgh-based filmmaker Marc Cousins was member of the Jury in 2021 and 2011. About his first experience at the Morelia Film Fest he wrote the following thoughts.
With its rich cultural tapestry and vibrant arts scene, Morelia offers the ideal canvas for showcasing exceptional cinematic works. The festival’s reputation for championing diverse and unique voices in cinema makes it a coveted platform for both emerging talents and established auteurs alike. It’s worth noting that this festival upholds rigorous selection standards, and to be chosen among the multitude of submissions is a significant achievement in itself.

A Stellar Lineup
This year’s official competition features an array of outstanding films, some of which are making their world premiere at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival. Notable among them is Upon Open Sky, written by the renowned Oscar-nominated filmmaker Guillermo Arriaga. Additionally, Valentina or the Serenity by renown Mexican actress and director Ángeles Cruz, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and Totem by Lila Avilés, which premiered earlier this year at the esteemed Berlinale Film Festival, are part of this impressive lineup. We are deeply honoured and humbled to be counted among such a remarkable selection of films, especially considering that Itu Ninu is a small independent production. We took great care to assemble a modest crew and cast, and we managed our resources conscientiously to minimize our carbon footprint.

Our Journey
The road leading up to this moment has been nothing short of an adventure. From the initial conceptualization to the filming with a reduced crew in Edinburgh and meticulous post-production, every step of this journey has been a labour of love. It demanded unwavering dedication, countless hours of relentless effort, and the support of a passionate team who shared a common vision. The inclusion of Itu Ninu in the Morelia International Film Festival’s official competition is a resounding acknowledgement of their commitment and boundless creativity.
We are excited with the opportunity to see Itu Ninu on the big screen, precisely as it was intended to be experienced. We look forward to engaging with our audience, sharing our story, and igniting meaningful conversations on climate change and cultural heritage through the powerful medium of cinema.
